After you have reviewed our Haven Resume Guide, you are ready to get help from a Canadian professional who can help you improve your resume.

Step 1: Make a post on Haven asking for help with your resume.

• Log-in to your account at https://app.findhaven.org/
• Go to “My Dashboard”, and click “Add a New Request”
• Select “Employment” and “I need help preparing or improving my resume”

You can then wait for Canadian to contact you. You can also look at the “Discover” page, and see what help Canadians are offering.

Step 2: Once you are matched with a Canadian, organize a 30 minute video call with them. Try to have this be a video call. If a video call is not possible, an audio call is fine as well.

Step 3: Make sure you come prepared for the meeting. This means that, before the call, you should:

• Have a resume that is prepared. Read the Haven Resume Guide and make sure your resume includes the standards mentioned in this guide.
• Send your resume to the Canadian supporter at least two days before your meeting. This will allow them to review your resume before you talk.
• Come prepared with any questions you have.
• Come prepared with the types of jobs you are interested in.
• You should have a LinkedIn profile created. This can include the information you included on your resume, as well as any other relevant information.

Step 4: On the day of the meeting, send them another message to confirm the time. If you need to reschedule, let the Canadian supporter know at least 24 hours in advance.

Step 5: At the start of the call, introduce yourself and explain your story, including what you went through since the start of the war. Canadians want to understand what you have experienced, and want to get to know you personally as well. Do not be afraid to ask them questions about themselves too!
