Refugees are coming to Canada in desperate circumstances - that means they need help in many different areas

If you matched with a refugee for a specific task, you’re under no obligation to keep helping that refugee with other tasks. If you’re asked, its up to you to decide - but please feel free to say “I’m sorry, but I don’t have the time to help in that way” and refer them back to the Haven platform so that they can post another request

📲 Use WhatsApp where possible

Once you are matched, you will receive the contact details of your match. Try to reach out to them on WhatsApp - if they are not on WhatsApp, contact them via SMS or email

🌎 Be flexible with your language

Translating between languages is one of the most difficult parts of many matches

Google Translate and other basic translation services will take you surprisingly far. Make sure you are communicating with your match in English or French - do not feel like you need to translate into any other language
