🔗 Matching with Refugees

Once your account is created, you don’t need to wait — you can reach out directly to refugees on the Discover Page and offer your help.

How Matching Works:

1. Create Your Account

   Tell us how you'd like to help and what times work best for you.

2. Reach Out

   You can message several refugees and let them know you're available to help. Sometimes people don’t respond right away — that’s okay. Try more than one!

3. Write a Kind, Personal Message

   When you reach out, explain:

• What kind of help you can offer (English practice, job support, local advice, etc.)
• Why you’re interested in helping this specific person
• A little bit about yourself (Where are you from? What do you do?)

This helps build trust and shows that you're serious.

❌ Bad Message

"Hi. I can help. Let me know."

🟡 Why it’s not great: It’s short, impersonal, and doesn’t explain who you are or how you can help.

✅ Good Message

Hi Maria!

I saw your profile and I’d love to help you practice English. I’m originally from Vancouver and I’ve worked with newcomers before. I also love chatting about Canadian culture and helping people feel more confident.

If you're free sometime this week, I'd be happy to schedule a short video call. Let me know what times work for you!

If the refugee accepts your message, you’ll be matched! You can then chat freely on the platform.
