Ready to start using Haven? Read below to better understand how to create your first offer the right way!

šŸ” Be specific about the help you can give

The more specific your offer to help, the easier it is for refugees to know that you’re the right person to reach out to.

Bad example: ā€œHello! I can help you find an apartment, message me for detailsā€

Good example: ā€œI live in Calgary and am happy to help you look for an apartment in the area and learn more about our different neighbourhoods!ā€

šŸ“ƒ Prioritize your offers

You can add up to five offers on Haven at a time; we recommend starting with posting one to two offers.

Refugees coming to Canada need a lot of help, but you don’t need to help with everything. Haven operates on the ā€œit takes a villageā€ model - you should only offer what you have the time and energy for.

Helping on Haven should be rewarding and fun, not a chore or source of stress. Only help in the way that you genuinely can and want to!

šŸ’¬ Use simple language in your offers

For many refugee users, English or French is not their first language. Use simple language while describing your offer, and keep things short - try to use a maximum of two to three sentences to describe how you can help

ā²ļø Update your offers for help as they change

Your capacity might change over time. If you made an offer for help, but it is no longer available, please withdraw / delete this offer. Otherwise, Haven users will be messaging you and can get frustrated that the information on the platform is not accurate!
