We’ve made the set-up process for supporters as easy as possible. However, if you run into issues, reach out to us at [email protected]
First, we’ll need some basic info from you to set-up your profile. This is important, as we want refugees to feel comfortable reaching out to you - you’re not a stranger, you’re a Canadian that wants to help!
This basic info will include your name, profile picture, your current city, and a few other points. We’ll use this info to build your profile, which refugees will be able to see.
We also work with our partners at **Certn** to verify your identity.
Unfortunately, refugees are directly targeted by some bad actors. Women and children are especially at risk from human traffickers, fraudsters, and other criminals. The current unregulated system of help leads to many refugees accepting help from strangers out of desperation. This leads to extremely dangerous situations.
Haven requires that every user, be they a Canadian supporter or refugee, verifies their identity before joining the platform. With Certn, we have a trusted and experienced Canada-based expert in ID verification. You’ll be asked to scan your government-issued ID, verify your identity with a quick biometrics scan, and then you ready to join the platform!
We’ve split our offers into two categories: Basic and Advanced.
Basic offers covers most of the ways you’ll want to help a refugee. However, there are certain offers where security will be especially important - we’ve called these Advanced offers. They include:
If you want to host a refugee in your home
To provide Advanced offers, you’ll need to complete a background check from Certn in addition to ID verification.
For the basic ID verification, **Certn** charges $3. You get to choose whether you want to pay this cost, or if you’d rather that Haven cover it. (We don’t mind covering the cost for Canadians - however, we do ask that you try to pay the cost so that we can focus on paying for refugees - we keep Haven completely free for all refugees!)
The background check from Certn costs $14. This is heavily discounted from the normal price (thanks Certn!) and we do ask Canadians to cover this cost. Plus the $3 for the ID check, that’ll bring your total up to $17 - not bad to give refugees some peace of mind!
